Terraline is creating the only clean-sheet, battery-electric heavy truck that is designed for any human or autonomous driver, and is capable of exceeding 500 miles of range. The Terraline team has decades of experience in the autonomous and electric vehicle industries, most notably the Tesla and Waymo Class 8 trucks. You will be working with a highly cross-functional team of systems, software, hardware and vehicle engineers, as well as an incredibly talented team of designers, technicians, and a wide range of other professionals.
Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Automotive Electrical System Design Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in the design and development of cutting-edge electrical systems for our next-generation vehicles. You will be responsible for creating robust and innovative electrical architectures, ensuring the seamless integration of various components, and designing wiring harnesses and point-to-point schematics that meet the highest industry standards. Your expertise in EE architecture, topology, and redundant systems will be essential in developing safe and reliable electrical systems that exceed customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities:

Electrical System Architecture and Design:
- Define and develop electrical system architectures for various vehicle platforms.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and ensure seamless integration of electrical components.
- Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and point-to-point schematics.
- Select appropriate electrical components, connectors, fuses, and wiring harnesses based on performance, cost, and reliability.
- Design and implement redundant electrical systems to ensure safety and reliability in critical applications.

Electrical System Analysis and Simulation:
- Perform electrical system simulations and analysis to validate design performance and identify potential issues.
- Conduct electrical load analysis to ensure adequate power distribution and avoid overloading.
- Evaluate electrical system performance under various environmental conditions.
- Utilize simulation tools to optimize electrical system design and troubleshoot issues.

Electrical System Testing and Validation:
- Develop and execute test plans to validate electrical system performance and reliability.
- Conduct electrical system testing in laboratory and vehicle environments.
- Troubleshoot electrical system issues and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure electrical components meet specifications.

Documentation and Communication:
- Create and maintain detailed electrical system documentation.
- Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate design concepts and findings.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and suppliers.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in automotive electrical systems.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering is a plus.
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in automotive electrical system design or a related field.
- Proven track record in designing and developing electrical systems for vehicles.
- Expertise in EE architecture, topology, and redundant systems.
- Experience designing low voltage architectures and devices used for 12V, 24V, and/or 48V systems.
- Familiarity with high voltage systems used in electric vehicles.
Familiarity with communication and networking technologies including CAN, LIN, Ethernet, Serial and the associate tools used for logging and analysis - Proficiency in electrical system simulation and analysis tools.
- Hands-on experience in electrical system testing and validation.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of automotive electrical systems and components.
- Proficiency in electrical schematic design and wiring diagram creation.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. - Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Demands:
We are all hands on deck at Terraline in our efforts to create exciting change within the trucking world. The ideal candidate will be both adventurous and versatile. Daily activities could range from a full day of designing components at your desk, to full days working in the shop working with large trucks, and everything in between. Each day will be an adventure and you should feel comfortable handling moderately sized components within your daily routine.
Travel Required:
Subject to periodic travel requirements. Company-related travel expenses reimbursed per the company’s Travel and Expense Reimbursement policy.
